From an outstanding range of entries for the British Tunnelling Society (BTS) Harding Prize competition, Alan Thomas of Mott MacDonald won the award with his paper and presentation ‘Numerical modelling of sprayed concrete tunnel linings’.
Also selected to make a presentation at the April meeting of the BTS were Esther Casson and Rand Selman (both seconded to the Eurolink joint venture from Mott MacDonald) with the joint paper ‘Self Certification of the North Downs Tunnel’, and Jon Hurt (Rail Link Engineering and Arup) with ‘The Value Engineered into the North Downs Tunnel’.
Six entries were received and all were considered of excellent quality, good enough for planned publication in future issues of Tunnels & Tunnelling International. The other three entries were from Stephen Feeley, Simon Stroud and Stephen Woodrow.
