The contract, awarded by Wangchhu Hydroelectric Power Ltd, is valued at ₹127 crore (€11.5m).
The scope of work includes construction of diversion tunnels, hydromechanical gates and cofferdams. The contract is scheduled to be completed within nine months.
The diversion works are critical for enabling the early commencement of the project’s primary civil works and maintaining the project’s overall implementation schedule.
The project is part of a significant expansion in Bhutan’s hydropower sector. Under the country’s 13th Five-Year Plan (2024-29), the government is targeting 6,000MW of installed capacity and continued investments in large hydroelectric projects.
Over the past 30 years HCC has been involved in several hydro power projects in Bhutan, including Tala (1020MW), Kurichu (60MW), Punatsangchhu-I (1200MW), Dagachhu (114MW) and Nikachhu (118MW).
The company has also executed 26% of India’s installed hydropower capacity.
