Excavation on the Brenner Base Tunnel’s eastern main tube has been completed.
TBM Lilia broke through in the municipality of Navis yesterday to finish the drive and mark the completion of mechanised excavation for H41 Sill Gorge-Pfons construction lot.
Since her launch in May 2023 in the Ahrental Valley, 160m-long TBM Lilia has excavated 8.1km through rock and encountered several fault zones. She arrived in the area of the existing “IRIS” auxiliary access route to the adjacent contract section H53 Pfons-Brenner. Lilia’s twin TBM, Ida, arrived at the same location in the west main tunnel tube at the end of August.
Seven of the nine TBMs deployed on the entire BBT project have now completed their drives. TBMs Wilma and Olga are currently building the east and west tunnels respectively on the H53 Pfons-Brenner section of the railway towards Innsbruck.
