A New York judge recently ordered the city’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to reverse toll increases on the region’s tunnels and bridges. Increases of up to US$1 were originally imposed on 18 May 2003. State Supreme Court Judge Robert Lippman called the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority, which runs the tunnels and bridges, a “cash cow”, and ordered the MTA to devise a plan “for the purpose of reimbursing the driving public for the toll increases improperly collected”.
