"Our target now is to ensure that the track laying machine is moving unimpeded along the entire railway line, from the southern entry of Railway Tunnel of tunnel system number three to the northern entry of railway tunnel number six, which is at the town of Esto-Sadok," said Dmitry Korolev, manager, Sochi Branch of OJSC Stroy-Trest.
"Waterproofing operations have been one hundred percent completed on all railway bridges of the route, and all operations on the subgrade have also been finished. We are placing expanded polystyrene slabs, which are necessary to protect waterproofing against mechanical damage when the track ballast is put in place."
The track will be installed by the end of November 2012 throughout the entire SK Most Group of companies contract area starting from the southern entry of railway tunnel of tunnel system number three to the northern entry of railway tunnel number six, which is at the town of Esto-Sadok. There are four railway tunnels and 13 bridges within this 20km long section of the route.
Construction of tunnel number four began in the third quarter of 2009 with completion in the third quarter of 2011. The tunnel, which is 480m long, is driven by mining method using drilling and blasting. The builders completed the driving of the upper (cap) part of the tunnel in October 2010.
