Flatiron Dragados has combined its New York metropolitan area businesses to create SPC Construction Co LLC.

The new subsidiary brings together New York/New Jersey area civil construction businesses of tunnelling companies Schiavone Construction Co LLC and John P Picone Inc, and EE Cruz & Company Inc.

FlatironDragados said the integration created a stronger organisation with an extensive market place presence in the New York metropolitan area.

“SPC Construction draws its strength from the skill and spirit of our people,” said FlatironDragados chairman Peter Davoren. “With a remarkable history of performance and a focus on the future, SPC Construction is positioned to deliver critical infrastructure that strengthens communities and creates lasting success for our people and our clients.”

FlatironDragados CEO Javier Sevilla said it was a major step forward in the unification and transformation of FlatironDragados.

“The synergies among these three organisations enables a simplified structure that will ensure a consistent approach to operations, client success and risk management by SPC Construction,” he said.

Schiavone has expertise in tunnelling, mass transit and subways, bridges and highways, deep foundations, marine work and water treatment plants, while Picone’s public works experience includes tunnelling, hydraulic works and water infrastructure. EE Cruz is a recognised for its work in complex and challenging transport infrastructure, resilience protection, deep foundations, bridges and geotechnical projects.

SPC Construction will be led by managing director  Jesus Diez; chief operating officer Joe Sheehan; and chief financial officer Neil Wegman.

The move follows the merger of Flatiron and Dragados in July last year. Dragados’s parent company, ACS Group, holds a 61.8% share in FlatironDragados and Flatiron’s parent company, Hochtief, has a 38.2% share.
