Plans for the UK’s first underground hazardous waste storage facility have moved ahead with the granting of a Pollution Prevention and Control permit by the Environment Agency.
Waste Disposal company Minosus intends to use Winsford Salt Mine in Cheshire as a 100,000tonne per annum facility. With 2M cubic metres of void space, Winsford could have a lifespan of 15 to 20 years depending upon waste density according to industry sources.
