Preliminary figures highlight it would cost Winnetka some USD 48.2M to build a storm water drainage system, but this figure would decrease if the village decided to move ahead on a less comprehensive storm water management system. However, this does not include the cost of financing the project. During a recent "rate and fee analysis workshop" village staff and consultants told trustees that the total cost of the project would cost more than USD 74M when including interest paid on bonds over a 30-year term, the local paper stated.

The proposed Winnetka sewer water project would be the most expensive storm water utility in the country on a per resident basis, the local reports revealed. The village is seeking residents’ input on all aspects of the proposal.
