The 230-ton CRCHI “Dream” is 10m high and has an excavation diameter of 23.02m.

“Dream” integrates the excavation, slagging, support and guidance functions for the construction of super-large diameter shafts in soft soil and soft rock strata.

CRCHI says that around the world the construction of underground smart parking garages is accelerating and so the number of large diameter and ultra-deep shaft projects is increasing. Shaft boring machines with an excavation diameter of 13-14m have been developed for mechanised sink shaft construction, but this is the first shaft boring machine with an excavation diameter of more than 15m.

To meet the needs of the super-large diameter excavation, while ensuring the efficiency of vertical shaft excavation, CRCHI’s R&D team designed mechanical sink shaft equipment with enhanced reliability during construction through water-bearing strata. “Dream” provides unmanned construction, more than halving costs and improving safety.

The underground smart parking garage in Shanghai Jing’an District covers an area of 286m2 above ground and 1,408m2 underground, with a total of 19 floors. The project involves two deep foundation shafts, each with a 23m diameter and a burial depth of 53m. Each shaft will have 152 mechanical parking spaces.
