Perhaps it is something to do with getting older, or just a characteristic of the modern world, but the pace of change in almost everything appears to accelerate with each passing year. Unfortunately, the same is true even at respected institutions such as T&T International and, after just two years, I am reluctantly stepping down as Editor.
It is with considerable sadness that I leave the magazine as I have great respect for T&T International and the industry it serves, and my association with the title goes back many years.
I feel that we have seen some real development of the editorial content of the magazine during my time at the helm and I have been encouraged by the positive comments and feedback from you, the readers, and the industry in general. It has also been an interesting two years for the tunnelling sector, which has seen some major projects, developments in technology and changes among the major players in the field.
Today, despite continued worries about the availability and profitability of tunnelling work around the world, the sector is poised at the threshold of what promises to be a ‘golden age’. The future looks bright, with strong demand for underground works. There is also a confidence among tunnellers that they now have the answers to silence the critics and to provide the infrastructure solutions needed for the 21st century.
For me, these have been a great two years, and I would like to thank you for all your help and support. Tunnelling is a fantastic industry with some great ‘characters’, and it has been a privilege to edit the best magazine in the sector.
I wish you all the very best for the future.
