US construction giant, Bechtel International, in joint venture with Turkish contractor Enka, will build a 6km tunnel as part of a US$531M, 57km road project in Albania.
Work on the scheme, which will shorten the journey time between the Albanian capital Tirana and Kosovo was due to start in October for completion in June 2009.
The scheme is the biggest infrastructure project so far undertaken in Albania. The highway will help connect the port city of Durres, 35km from Tirana, to Kukes and the Morina border crossing point.
