In mid March, federal prosecutors in the U.S. confirmed that they are investigating Boston’s Big Dig tunnel project. The news came as project officials said thier own inspection of the leaking Interstate 93 tunnel walls had uncovered 11 more minor defects, making a total of 55 panels with faults identified out of 1,080 inspected. City paper, The Boston Herald, broke the news and claimed contractor Modern Continental was the focus of the federal investigation. The paper also described how Modern Continental was being investigated in an investigation by the state, together with the Bechtel / Parsons Brinckerhoff joint venture that was managing the project. A spokesman for Bechtel / Parson Brinckerhoff told the paper they would co-operate with any relevant state or federal authority.
