Peter Bishop has been appointed as the third chairman of the Road Tunnel Operators Association (RTOA), it was announced last month. He replaces Peter Hedley, who was general manager of the Tyne Tunnels until his retirement.
Bishop has over 25 years of experience at the Kingsway and Queensway Mersey tunnels and was most recently principal officer for buildings and estates at Merseytravel, the organisation responsible for operating the Mersey tunnels.
“Accepting this office is a very proud moment for me, as I was involved at the birth of the Association some ten years ago,” said Bishop. “I never believed my colleagues and peers would elevate me to my current position. I feel honoured.
“My mission is to further the aims and profile of the association, including the creation of a validated Operatives training scheme, and forge greater links with our colleagues in the BTS.”
The RTOA represents the interests of road tunnel owners and operators throughout Britain and Ireland and has acted as a focus for best practice standards including training operatives.
