
The election took place at the ITA’s 51st General Assembly, hosted at the World Tunnel Congress in Stockholm last week.
McGirr, who is a director at COWI UK, has been on the ITA’s Executive Council since 2022, and was a member of the ITA’s Governance Council from 2019-2022. He was elected to the BTS Committee in 2006, was vice-chair from 2010-2012, and chair from 2012-2014
McGirr is one of three new vice-presidents. The others are Klaus Rieker of Germany, who was elected first vice-president, and Sanja Zlatanic from the US.
Five new Executive Council members were also elected. They are Elena Chiriotti of France; Nobuharu Isago of Japan; Zhigou Zhang of China; Hamdi Aydin of Turkey; and Johan Mignon of Belgium.
Andrea Pigorini of Italy was elected ITA president for the 2025-2028 term. He succeeds Arnold Dix who will remain on the Executive Council as immediate past president for the next three years.
