As the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) board waits to vote on a change of tunnelling contractor for the BART Silicon Valley Phase II (BSVII) Project, construction work is progressing on the project.
In its latest construction update, the VTA says work is continuing at the West Portal at Newhall Yard & Maintenance Facility. Night work commenced on June 9, and July will mark the first full month of night-time construction.
Activities at the West Portal site include site preparation; tunnel wall foundation work; crane assembly; guide wall construction; improving ground support; and support wall construction.
Desanding equipment has also been installed.
Following a recommendation by the VTA’s Oversight Committee, the board will decide on June 27 whether to “offramp” Kiewit Shea Traylor JV (KSTJV) as the tunnelling contractor.
