A Chinese construction company obscured the true number of deaths in a tunnel collapse in Southern China last September, according to the Chinese press, by counting rescue workers as survivors. The unidentified company initially said five workers were killed after a section of the OngyuanTunnel in Guandong Province collapsed. In fact nine people died in the incident, said the Beijing Youth Daily. Company officials allegedly told four rescue squad members that as soon as they blasted a path into the caved-in area they were to lie down as though they had been found there.
