The joint venture will design and construct a tunnel between Shankar Vihar and Hauz Khas as well as underground stations at Vasant Vihar, Munirka, R K Puram, IIT and Hauz Khas. L&T Construction¹s share in the project is INR 8520M (USD 157M).
L&T has made significant contributions to the implementation of the DMRC, the company stated. The group constructed an underground corridor from Kashmere Gate to Central Secretariat, Mandi House underground station, and the ramp on the extension of the Barakhamba Road-Dwarka metro corridor towards Pragati Maidan. L&T has also constructed the largest Delhi Metro underground station at Rajiv Chowk and has executed a platform tunnel for the deepest station at Chawri Bazaar.
DMRC is owned jointly by the Government of India and the Delhi state government. The project is part of the 11km long underground section of a USD 1.1bn, 156km public transport rail network for New Delhi, which is expected to be completed by 2021. The project has been assigned high priority and will contribute to resolving New Delhi’s growing traffic congestion and air pollution problems. It will significantly improve the environment, traffic safety and accessibility in the Indian capital, which has a population of 10 million.
