The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has achieved another breakthrough on Phase IV.
The 91m-long EPBM broke through at Vasant Kunj Station yesterday, completing excavation of the 1,550m tunnel between Kishangarh and Vasant Kunj Station on the Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridor.
Two parallel tunnels for up and down movement are being constructed on this stretch as part of the Aerocity–Tughlakabad corridor. The breakthrough on the parallel tunnel was made on March 6.
The new tunnel was constructed at an average depth of 22.86m, with a minimum depth 15.48m and a maximum of 30.25m. Approximately 1,105 rings were installed in the tunnel, which has an inner diameter of 5.8m. The tunnel rings were cast at a fully mechanised casting facility at Mundka and were cured with a steam curing system to achieve early strength.
As part of the Phase IV project approved so far, 40.109km of underground lines are being constructed. The Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor has underground sections totalling 19.34km.
Excavation between Maa Anandmayee Marg and Tughlakabad Railway Colony Station was completed earlier this month and between Chhatarpur and Chhatarpur Mandir Station in August last year.
