Spanish manufacturer Duro Felguera, announced last month that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) regarding the production of TBMs for Latin America and Europe. The companies are studying a joint venture that would see Mitsubishi machines manufactured in Duro Felguera’s Barros factory. According to a statement released by Duro Felguera, the company believes that “the growth in the European high speed railway networks make[s] foreseeable an increasing demand of these machines for the next ten years.” The manufacturer is already constructing two 10m diameter Robbins/MHI TBMs for the twin-tube 7.5km Abdalajis railway tunnel on the route between Cordoba and Malaga.
