Herrenknecht is to supply three TBMs for Taiwan’s Kaohsiung Metro Yellow Line package YC01.
The German manufacturer has signed a TBM supply contract with Gamuda for three EPB shield machines for the mass transit project.
The TBMs will be customised for local silty clay and sand geology as well as a tight curve design.
Project owner Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit Bureau awarded Package YC01 to the consortium of Gamuda Berhad and Asia World Engineering & Construction in November 2023. The RM3.45bn (€690m) contract involves construction of a 4.4km railway in NiaoSong district, including 3.5km twin-bored tunnels and 0.9km of elevated tracks, four stations (three underground and one above ground) and two crossovers and cross-passages.
