In March, Granite Halmar, a wholly owned subsidiary of Granite Construction, announced it had been been awarded a contract for the South Ferry Terminal subway station in New York. The contract was awarded in joint venture with Schiavone Construction Co. Inc. and Granite’s scope is worth 40% of the US$261M project cost. Granite will design and construct a new station to serve the No. 1 and No. 9 lines, including 487m of tie-in approach tunnels. Work was due to begin in March, with completion scheduled for May 2007. The existing subway structure will remain in use during construction.
