Morgan Sindall Grontmij, contractors for Yorkshire Water, are sinking a 13m-deep shaft from where they will begin to drive a tunneling machine underground, from their compound at Palace car park. The contractors have already excavated to a depth of 3 to 4m and it is expected that will take until the end of January to dig down to the full depth.
The project will provide a new pumping station, sewer and outfall pipe which the company hopes will help Bridlington’s beaches hit strict new water quality guidelines set out by the European Union. The TBM is expected to be launched in March or April 2014.
