Mott Connell is on course to complete preliminary designs in July for a 4.2km link that, if constructed, would become Hong Kong’s longest road tunnel.

The structure is part of the Route 10 expressway that will eventually connect Hong Kong Island with the north west New Territories, near the boundary with the rest of China.

The tunnel will be one of the first sections of Route 10 to go ahead, running between So Kwun Wat and Lam Tei in the New Territories.

Highways Department major projects director Robert Lloyd said expressions of interest have also been invited from consultants for the Tsing Lung Tau to So Kwun Wat tunnels and viaducts section.

The contract, which covers the design and construction supervision, will be awarded by June.
