Kawasaki‘s relationship with the Shinsho Corporation in China has paid off, following a third TBM contract in the region. The 6.34m diameter EPBM was delivered in July, for a tunnelling start date for the end of 2002 on the No.1 subway in Tianjin. The 20km subway extension, financed by Tianjin City, includes a 1.2km twin bore tunnel through silty clay. The Shinsho Corporation is a trading company and Kawasaki’s agent in China for two years. Kawasaki told T&TI that it expects more work through them. The contractors on the project have yet to be chosen.
