Leica Geosystems AG, Swiss specialist in spatial data acquisition and data handling, and US company Cyra Technologies, developer and manufacturer of 3-D laser mapping and imaging systems, have announced an agreement under which Leica will invest in Cyra.

A financial minority in Cyra has been acquired by Leica, which has a seat on Cyra’s board of directors. The position is being filled by Hans Hess, CEO of Leica Geosystems.

The move will provide Cyra with the finance to accelerate and expand its Cyrax 3-D Laser Scanning Systems and range of integrated software applications. The system incorporates advanced laser and PC software capable of capturing 3-D geometric reality digitally. This provides users with advanced computer visualisation and solutions through design, construction and operation, thereby reducing costs, aiding faster project completion and improving safety.

Leica Geosystem’s investment signals a financial commitment to a technology that has been described by several survey industry editors as the next major break-through in surveying.
