Prior to shutting down for the Christmas break, the Lovat TBM on the Metro Milan extension managed to excavate 511 meters in one month.
Contractors Torno Internazionale SpA worked the 6.54 metre diameter TBM around the clock on three eight hour shifts per day. The planned stoppage for the Christmas break sees the machine 2.5 metres from the Pero’s Station wall. It has a further 253 metres left to excavate to the breakthrough at the Pisacane shaft when work recommences in the new year.
