The €380m (US$400m) contract, awarded by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, comprises an 8.6km-long tunnel with two tubes and a 125m-long stretch of road. It is linked to the E39 Rogfast project, which is one of Norway’s biggest infrastructure projects, building the world's longest and deepest underwater tunnel. The E03 Boknafjord tunnel project starts this month and is scheduled for completion in 2030.
Implenia, which has an 80% share of the joint venture, is in charge of the excavation and tunnelling work and the interior construction of the tunnel. Stangeland Maskin is responsible for the transport of the excavated material and construction of the road, including drainage works.
The two companies have already collaborated on the Eiganes tunnel in the Norwegian city of Stavanger and are currently working as a joint venture to build the E39 Lyngdal motorway.
