The Detroit News reported the plan to replace a double train tunnel between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, had some hurdles, including securing half the amount needed for the USD 400M project from the US and Canadian governments.
The Detroit-Windsor Crossing’s proponents said the tunnel will increase trade with Canada and link Detroit to other high-volume ports.
The project was called The Jobs Tunnel when it was proposed in 2003. At least USD 200M has been pledged for the 1.6 mile (2.6km) tunnel.
