We are seeking a Resident Superintendent(Tunnels) to support our program/project management team on the delivery of transit expansion projects in the City of Toronto. You will be part of an integrated team, located in the client’s office.
As the ideal candidate:
- You possess a university degree in a relevant Engineering discipline, or the equivalent, combined with progressively senior experience in the management of medium to heavy multidisciplinary construction projects (tunnels) in an urban environment.
- You require a comprehensive knowledge of construction management and engineering practices and principles including familiarity with construction law and practices; contract administration; and claims management.
- Demonstrated experience in construction inspection, administration, documentation and management of a multidisciplinary field staff is required.
- You must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
- Must have the ability to deal with complex issues and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management.
- Highly developed organizational, administrative, interpersonal, verbal communication, report writing and presentation skills are required.
- You must have or must rapidly acquire knowledge of relevant the client’s policies and procedures as well as pertinent legislation/regulations.
Reporting to the Project Manager – Bored Tunnels, you are responsible for :
- The day to day management of the construction administration team and overseeing the performance of the Contractor(s) for given contracts associated with tunneling, valued in the 100+ million dollar range.
- You will oversee the functioning of field operations by directing, negotiating and controlling all phases of construction.
- You are responsible for on-site construction safety; security; contract administration; quality control of the constructed product; communications and liaison between the construction site and contractors, client’s staff, engineering/design consultant staff, municipalities, utility companies, and other public/regulatory agencies, as well as for construction progress reporting.
- You maintain contract records, a daily record of contract activities, and a written and photographic record of construction progress; provide assistance in the evaluation/negotiation/resolution of contract changes and contractor’s claims; review and approve the contractor’s schedule and updates; prepare Certificates of Substantial Performance and Completion; manage the contract change process; manage construction field staff in construction inspection and report activities; and inspect the Contractor’s work for general conformance with the Contract Documents.
