The Russian government will go ahead with plans regarding with the construction of transport infrastructure in Sochi, which will host the Winter Olympics in 2014.
Several tunnels will be built as part of the project, with a total length of 26.5km, of which 10.3km will be railway tunnels, 6.7km road and 9.5km shaft tunnels. In total 10 tunnels will be built.
Anatoli Babinez, the official representative of Stroy-Trust, the contractor responsible for the project, said in a statement that construction of all 10 tunnels is currently underway using drill and blast method. Babinez added that the company had already completed tunneling of the shortest railway tunnel on the combined road connecting Adler and Alpika-Service mountain resort in Sochi.
The total cost of the project is estimated at RUB 270bn (USD 8.8bn).
