Norwegian power company Statkraft has awarded US$250,000 to the country’s rock blasting museum.

The money, one of two awards this year issued by the Statkraft Fund, will be used to complete the exhibitions at The Norwegian Rock Blasting Museum, in Lillehammer.

The museum opened three years ago and is housed in a 240m long tunnel, which exhibits the history of rock blasting in the country’s construction industry, especially with regard to developing hydropower projects.

Money from the Fund should enable the exhibits, which are already narrated, to become a greater multimedia experience, it is anticipated. Details on the completion schedule were not immediately available.

Rock blasting and fishing for young people were the two themes selected from 30 organisations that applied for the funding in 2007. In total, the Statkraft Fund awarded about US$325,000 in the third annual round of community giving.
