Atlas Copco is set to invest US$5.4M to increase its manufacturing capacity for mining and tunnelling equipment in Sweden.
Following a period of strong growth and record profits for the group, the plans call for development of expanded facilities to assemble loaders and mine trucks at the company’s Örebro plant. Construction got underway in May and the new extension is scheduled to be operational by early 2006.
These plans are the latest in a long term strategy being implemented by Atlas Copco to concentrate its construction and mining business to Örebro. Emphasizing that this was the case rather than a reaction to current market demand, Lars Engström, president of the group’s Underground Rock Excavation division said: “We have a positive view of the future and this is simply another step in our plan to increase our capacity … It is also a timely development in view of the many new products that we have recently added to our range.”
