Tunnelling operations are expected to begin in December 2012. It will take nearly a year to tunnel the distance of 2,820m from Anna Sala.
Meanwhile, at Nehru Park station, where tunnelling work first began, the first TBM has drilled more than 100m. The second TBM to be used for excavation at Nehru Park metro station was launched recently. The two TBMs will cover a stretch of 939m from Nehru Park station to Egmore station. Both the tunnels are expected to reach Egmore by the end of January 2013.
