The Tehran Urban & Suburban Railway Co has opened of the first section of the city’s Line 2. The mostly underground two-track line runs 8.5km and has 10 stations, six of which are sub-surface. Trains of seven cars will run on the line with a 2500 passenger/h capacity. A second 6km long section of Line 2 is due to come on-line in the Winter 2002.
