Turkey’s state highways administration is preparing to invite contractors to prequalify for the long delayed $41M Gokcek road tunnel. Firms were first invited to bid for the buld-operate-transfer concession in 1998 as part of the Kalkan-Fethiye second regional border highway. The scheme was cancelled after contractors showed little interest in the project. The highways administration though, has now revived plans for the 4km link which is due to be open to traffic in 2004. The winning concessionaire will be responsible for the design, construction, maintenance and operation of the facility.
