A 4.5km sewer pipeline got under way last month in Welwyn Garden City, UK, in a bid to boost the town’s wastewater system. The US$14M ‘no-dig’ project consists of a tunnel, 20m below ground, constructed using an Iseki 1200. A spokesman for the project said that although the drivelengths are relatively long – 300m each – construction should be straightforward, and that the target duration of two years should be comfortably achieved. The client, Thames Water, appointed contractors Barhale and Subterra. Barhale will undertake the specialist tunnelling work, while Subterra will be involved in the shorter sections of open trench work.
