The contract comprises the construction of a concrete and rock tunnel, which will pass beneath Stora Hamnkanalen close to the canal’s Göta älv outlet.

Work on the project will start immediately and is expected to be completed in summer 2029.

“We are very happy to have been awarded another Västlänken subcontract. This is testimony to the solid co-operation established with the Swedish Transport Administration and to the expertise of Veidekke’s project organisation to execute such complex projects,” said Fredrik Indevall, regional manager at Veidekke Anläggning Väst.

The West Link double track rail project will extend for 8km, with 6km of the route underground. It includes three new underground stations – Gothenburg Central, Haga and Korsvägen.

The Stora Hamnkanalen tunnel is the fourth and final construction contract in the Haga stage of the project.

In July last year Veidekke was awarded the contract to build the Haga–Otterhällan section of the West Link.
