On 25 January 2011 Vietnamese company Cavico was awarded the contract for the Song Giang 1 Hydropwer plant. The USD 7.75M contract will include a 131-foot-high (39.93m) surge tank, measuring 30.2 feet (9.21m) in diameter.

With 10.5-foot (3.2m) diameter tunnels running for 11,500 feet (3,505m) underneath the Khanh Vinh District, it will be the largest hydropower project in Central Vietnam’s Khanh Hoa Province.

The twin-unit plant is to be funded by Song Giang Hydropower Joint Stock Company, investing an anticipated USD 23.2M.

Once operational the plant will have a 24MW annual capacity. Cavico’s vice president Mr. Hai Thanh Tran said, “In 2011 Cavico expects to be awarded many more tunnel construction projects.”
