The S$199m (€136m) contract, for the design and construction of the tunnels between the existing Bukit Panjang station and the future DE1 station on the DTL2e, has been secured by China Railway Tunnel Group Co Ltd (Singapore Branch).

The twin bored tunnels, each approximately 1.8km long, will be constructed beneath Woodlands Road and existing infrastructure such as the Kranji Expressway flyover. Tunnel construction will be carried out within a limited workspace because of the proximity to the existing Bukit Panjang station.

Construction works are scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026, and passenger service for DTL2e is due to start in 2035.

DTL2e, which comprises three stations, will improve rail connectivity in the north-western region, and reduce travel times to and from the north and north-western parts of Singapore. It will provide improved access to existing and new growth areas such as Yew Tee and the future Sungei Kadut Eco-District.

LTA awarded the contracts for the DE1 and NS6/DE2 stations in February.
