Dr Karina Lange, an expert in radioactive waste management and international scientific collaboration, will be a keynote speaker at ITA WTC2026 in Montréal in May.
In her presentation at the opening ceremony on May 18, Dr Lange will highlight the collaboration between the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the ITA, supporting the advancement of geological disposal facilities (GDF) worldwide.
Dr Lange is the scientific secretary for the IAEA’s Underground Research Facilities Network. She was previously a senior licensing officer and inspector at the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
As a radioactive waste disposal specialist, she supports countries in the early stages of developing disposal programmes, fostering international collaboration through scientific visits, training activities, and workshops.
Professor Larry Beasley from the University of British Columbia and the founding principal of international planning consultancy Beasley and Associates will also be a keynote speaker.
Prof Beasley gained international acclaim as the director of planning for Vancouver where he oversaw land use, transport and regeneration plans that have reshaped the inner city.
