Porr is converting the 100-year-old run-of-river Rudolph Fettweis power plant in Forbach into a pumped storage hydro facility for EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg.

Concrete is being poured continuously in the Schwarzenbach power plant, the Murg power plant, and the transformer cavern, gradually creating the technical heart of the future plant. At the same time, the teams are advancing the construction of the underwater tunnels of the Murg and Schwarzenbach rivers.

At the Schwarzenbach power plant, the first sections of the steel lining have been installed by the subsequent contractor. Following this, the Porr tunnel construction team encased the steel pipes in concrete to secure them permanently.

At the outlet structure, a Porr specialist foundation engineering team has finished all the anchor work. Once anchor tensioning is completed, excavation of the construction pit will commence.

At the end of March, the Schwarzenbach power plant section in Forbach was officially decommissioned after more than 100 years of operation. The Murg power plant will be decommissioned in the coming weeks.

In September last year, Porr Tunnelbau achieved the breakthrough of the main tunnel between the cavern water reservoir and the outlet structure on the Rudolf Fettweis power plant.
