The line is the backbone of the capital’s 176km driverless metro network.
Located in the western part of Riyadh along one of its main arteries – Al Madinah Al Munawarah Road – the Western Station is an intermodal hub. Covering 112,000m2, it integrates an elevated metro station, a bus terminal, underground parking with over 600 spaces, retail areas, a mosque and a large public square.
It is the largest of the project’s four iconic stations, which also include the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) Station, STC Olaya Station, and Qasr Al Hukm Station. The station’s design is inspired by the desert dunes and features two large arches, spanning up to 115m and rising by approximately 24m, to support the main roofs.
Western Station is designed to LEED Gold criteria.
The 41km line includes an 11km tunnelled section serving eight stations.
