The 417m-long Mountain Tunnel-07 (MT-07) in the Sahyadri Mountain range is part of the MAHSR C-3 package and was excavated over 516 days using 117 controlled blasts.
The 12.6m-wide tunnel is designed for two tracks.
The team excavated from both sides using the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM), allowing for real-time geological monitoring and dynamic support deployment such as shotcrete, rock bolts, and lattice girders.
During excavation, Larsen & Toubro deployed advanced, real-time instrumentation monitoring systems, including 3D targets, seismographs, and Surface Settlement Points (SSP).
The 135.45km MAHSR C-3 package is an elevated section connecting Shilphata (Thane) to Zaroli village at the Maharashtra-Gujarat border. It features three bullet train stations – Thane, Virar, and Boisar – and 124km of viaducts.
The stretch also includes seven mountain tunnels over a total length of 6km, 2.3km of steel bridges, and 5km of special earth structures.
