More than 13,000 concrete segments – each weighing around 15 tonnes – are being manufactured to line the 1.5km section of the twin tunnels beneath Sydney Harbour.
Acciona says reaching the halfway point confirms that production systems, workforce capability and quality controls are operating effectively at scale. It also signals that the supply chain is ready to maintain a continuous flow of segments to support TBM operations now that excavation has begun.
Acciona will operate two TBMs on the harbour tunnel. The CREG-manufactured machines each have a 15.7m diameter and are the largest TBMs deployed in the Southern Hemisphere.
TBM Patyegarang was launched on June 12.
