Jacobs-AECOM JV appointed delivery partner for Dublin Metrolink

Transport Infrastructure Ireland has appointed a Jacobs-AECOM joint venture as programme delivery partner for Dublin’s MetroLink project – Ireland’s first metro system.

The joint venture will integrate with the MetroLink team to manage, oversee, and co-ordinate the construction, integration, and commissioning phases. Ramboll and Nicholas O’Dwyer will support the joint venture

The majority of the 18.8km MetroLink route will be underground. The line from Swords to Charlemont will have 16 stations and provide a 25-minute journey time from north Dublin to the city centre.

It will link Dublin Airport, Irish Rail, DART, Dublin Bus and Luas services and create an integrated public transport network for the Greater Dublin Area. As well as linking major transport hubs, MetroLink will connect key destinations such as Ballymun, the Mater Hospital, the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin City University, and Trinity College Dublin. 

TII launched procurement of the two major civils packages in February this year. Package M401 Southern Section (Charlemont to Northwood) includes bored tunnels, tunnel portals, evacuation/intervention shafts and ventilation shafts; below ground station excavations at Charlemont, St Stephen’s Green, Tara Station, O’Connell, Mater, Glasnevin, Griffith Park, Collins Avenue, Ballymun, Northwood up to 35m deep, including shell and core structure; and ancillary civil and accommodation works. It is valued at €4.565bn.

The €3.347bn Package M402 Northern Section M402 (Northwood to Estuary) also includes bored tunnels and portals, evacuation/intervention shafts; and stations, excavations and associated logistics, including Dardistown, Fosterstown, Swords Central, Seatown, and Estuary.

Minister for transport, Darragh O’Brien, said the appointment of the programme delivery partner demonstrated the continued progress being made in delivering one of the most important infrastructure investments in the history of the State.
