Sweden’s NCC is heading a joint venture that has won a S$344M (US$193M) design and construct tunnelling contract from Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) for a section of the Marina Line.
The LTA said this is the second civil works contract to be awarded on the 5.4km long Marina Line which forms stage one of Singapore’s planned Circle line that will connect all existing mass transit lines.
The first contract was awarded in May to a consortium formed by Nishimatsu Construction and Lum Chang Building Contractors.
NCC said its share of the project is worth SKr720M (US$70.1M). The firm’s partners on contract C825 are Singaporean contractor Woh Hup Construction and Shanghai Tunnelling Engineering Company, a Chinese firm experienced in soft soil TBMs.

The group will build two parallel, 1.5km long bored tunnels, 700m of cut-and-cover tunnel and four underground stations at Millenia, Convention Centre, Museum and Dhoby Ghaut.
NCC said the design phase of the contract is starting now and overall completion is due in 2005. About 1,000 people will be employed on the scheme, most employed locally.
