16,000 Meters: CRCHI TBM Sets New Overseas Record for Longest Single-Heading Excavation with a Double-Shield TBM
On Dec 25, at the Upper Elahera–Hela Canal Water Transfer Tunnel Project in Sri Lanka, a double-shield TBM featuring a combined “segment lining + rock bolting and shotcreting” support system, independently developed by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Corporation Limited (CRCHI), achieved continuous excavation of more than 16,000 meters without any intermediate inspection shaft. The breakthrough successfully surpassed the 10,000-ring milestone, setting a new overseas record for the longest single-heading excavation using a double-shield TBM.
