TBM Margherita will dig the 4km-long 4.5m-diameter Grisciano Tunnel that will accommodate a DN900 steel pipeline.
Ai Engineering, which is providing construction management and health and safety co-ordination during the execution phase, says the project also includes the Borgo d’Arquata tunnel, which is being excavated by drill and blast.
The Pescara Aqueduct is a major project to upgrade and secure water supply for Pescara and surrounding areas. The new tunnels and pipelines, which replace aging infrastructure, will improve capacity and earthquake resilience.
