On March 26, the client, Region Stockholm, hosted an event with project partners, including Itinera, to celebrate the milestone.

Excavation and blasting are one of the most critical phases of the project. The first blast took place in Veddesta on April 3, 2019; between 2021 and 2022, works reached their operational peak with more than 40 sections active simultaneously. In total, approximately 21,500 blasts were carried out, culminating in the final operation at the connection point between Solna and Stockholm.

Itinera, which has contracts for the construction of two sections, says these achievements highlighted the high level of technical expertise and the strong collaboration among all project partners.

“The completion of blasting activities marks a decisive step towards the development of Stockholm’s future metro network, contributing to improving transport system capacity and the quality of urban mobility in the Swedish capital,” the company says.

The extension will add more than 20km of new tracks and 18 stations to Stockholm’s metro network
