In June last year a Budimex and Gülermak consortium launched TBM Jadwiga to dig the 3.8km tunnel between Limanowa and Klęczany on railway line No. 104.
The 11m-diameter TBM bored under Pisarzowa between the mountain towns of Męcina and Mordarka. Its daily record advance was 46m.
The 4.8m-diameter TBM Kinga completed[https://www.tunnelsandtunnelling.com/news/tbm-breaks-through-on-polish-railway-project/] excavation of the parallel evacuation tunnel in March.
TBMs Kinga and Jadwiga will be reused on other sections of the Podłęże–Piekiełko project which includes 20 tunnels – 16 railway and four evacuation – over a total length of more than 31km.
Minister for infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak said the key infrastructure project for southern Poland was gaining momentum.
“Three weeks ago, a smaller evacuation tunnel was dug, and now a larger one for trains will follow. This success is the result of the hard work of engineers, railway workers, and miners who completed the task of excavating the main tunnel in just 10 months. This proves that we have highly qualified specialists in Poland who can carry out such demanding projects,” he said.
